In 2008, the installation of six-metre high cantilever traffic signals on Merrion Road was restricted by a range of existing services in the pavement. A shallow-depth RS168df socket with a reinforced foundation was used to overcome this challenge.
The project was carried out in two phases over several weeks. Foundation and groundworks were completed first, and all RS168 sockets were sealed for safe pavement use along this busy commuter route. The installation and electrical connection of the traffic signal posts were then carried out at a later date.
