The CLA-VAL 52-03: Surge Anticipator and Pressure Relief Valve is typically installed near a pump on a discharge line to atmosphere. While gradual starting and stopping of pumping systems prevent harmful surges, abrupt pump shutdowns (e.g., due to power failure) can cause dangerous surges and severe equipment damage. The CLA-VAL 52-03 anticipates these surges by opening on the low pressure wave, ensuring it is fully open on the returning high wave to effectively divert excess pressure. As part of the CLA-VAL SERIES 50, it also functions as a sustaining valve, accurately maintaining a minimum preset inlet pressure, and as a relief valve that opens fast to dissipate excess system pressure.
