The CLA-VAL 50-55F: Pressure Relief Valve with High Opening Speed and Progressive Closing Speed is typically installed in a main line bypass to discharge any overpressure produced during the starting or stopping of pumps. While gradual pump operations do not cause surges, abrupt pump shutdowns, such as during an electric power failure, can generate dangerous surges that lead to severe equipment damage. This valve effectively damps such overpressure and prevents additional surge build-up through its controlled closure. As part of the CLA-VAL SERIES 50, it also accurately maintains a minimum preset inlet pressure (Sustaining Service) regardless of changing flow rates and opens fast to dissipate excess system pressure.
